Ohana Rising 36×24″ Acrylic On Canvas
You may have noticed I used my sculpture by the same name as a reference for the composition. Ohana means family in Hawaiian. In Hawaiian waters it is a very common sight to see a mother and her calf with an escort whale. Some would like to believe it is the mate but it most likely is just another male humpback whale. Even though the female is still lactating and feeding it’s calf, she is still capable of conceiving. This was discovered back in the ’70s by researcher Debbie Ferrari, The Center For Whale Studies, when she notice one of the whales they called Daisy give birth annually.
